The Principal Commercial Data Architect is the top-level technical authority responsible for defining and driving the enterprise data architecture strategy. This role owns the architectural vision for a curated data-layer ecosystem, enterprise semantic standards, interoperability frameworks, and governance structures that enable analytics, AI/ML, and operational intelligence at scale. The position partners with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to modernize platforms, establish architectural standards, and mentor technical talent.


Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Define and implement a multi-year data architecture roadmap aligned with strategic objectives set by functional leadership, including lakehouse evolution, interoperability, governance, and observability. Ensure roadmap execution supports long-term business priorities.

Own and enforce architectural standards for Databricks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and cloud-native data environments, driving consistency and scalability across the enterprise to achieve functional performance targets.

Architect enterprise semantic models, KPI logic, and unified metric layers that enable standardized reporting and analytics, providing measurable impact on decision-making and operational efficiency.

Lead governance frameworks for metadata, lineage, security, and compliance to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and organizational standards, contributing to risk mitigation and operational excellence.

Establish enterprise-wide observability and data quality standards using tools like Monte Carlo, Soda, and Great Expectations, delivering quantifiable improvements in data reliability and trustworthiness.

Chair architecture councils and mentor senior architects, fostering a culture of innovation and alignment with strategic priorities while building organizational capability to meet future demands.

Evaluate emerging technologies and guide modernization programs toward cloud-native architectures, ensuring recommendations and implementations provide measurable input into new services, processes, and standards that advance functional goals.
