This role drives cross-functional alignment and execution to improve AI-enabled engineering practices across teams. The leader will manage 2-5 engineering teams through Engineering Managers (15-50+ engineers). | | | | | |
Principal Duties & Responsibilities | Own technical delivery and quality for a major product domain or platform area | Set technical strategy aligned with product roadmap and business objectives | Make staffing decisions such as team sizing, role mix, FTE/CW allocation, hiring priorities | Drive engineering practices and standards adoption across teams | Partner with product, design, and QE directors on cross-functional strategy | AI-adjusted workforce planning model which roles shrink (junior IC, manual testing) and which grow (context eng, architects) | Define machine-readable standards (.clinerules/, ADRs, linting) that AI agents enforce — “standards as code” | Reassess what’s feasible such as re-evaluate “too expensive” initiatives that AI makes cost-effective | Drive engineering practice maturity for AI-augmented development across all teams | Manage the FTE/CW/AI equation: understanding how AI changes the cost and sourcing model |
