This detail‐oriented position will be responsible for assisting the veterinarian in implementing a preventative health care program involving the SGDH animal collection. | | | | | |
Principal Duties & Responsibilities | Assist the veterinarian(s) in implementing a preventative health care program, in‐house testing and evaluation of biological samples, veterinary procedures and treatments, postmortem analysis and studies, conducting effective testing methods and procedures to ensure the health of the collection and comply with government regulations, and the coordination of all veterinary activities | Manage the movement, processing and testing of biological samples, initiate preparation of supplies and equipment for veterinary procedures and assist in preparation of animal transports | Procure, organize and maintain laboratory and veterinary equipment, pharmaceuticals, controlled substances and supplies | Participate in local, national and international professional veterinary and scientific organizations, and attend continuing education seminars | Ensure the safety of staff regarding bio‐hazards and zoonotic diseases, ensure full compliance with all related governmental organizations, safety policies and guidelines, and maintenance of veterinary medical records in accordance with USDA standards | Assist animal care staff in facilitation of the treatment and care of the animals and current husbandry procedures | Assist and coordinate current facility research needs, research vendors for sources of specialized veterinary and laboratory equipment | Procurement of veterinary and department supplies using corporate purchasing system | Frequent and effective communication with the Veterinarian and Animal Care department director | Perform other job‐related duties as requested |
